Auction Tactics: Consignment vs. Liquidation vs. Estate

Here at Dakil, we serve Oklahoma City with three types of auctions to fit the needs of your sale. While we can accommodate a wide variety of sale items, from restaurant-grade ovens to bulldozers to a ranch house, the tactics used to sell these items vary greatly and it’s good to know the basics of each auction strategy. Let’s take a look at each major type of sale.

Consignment

Most auctions of related groups of items or equipment fall under this category. By definition, a consignment auction is comprised of for-sale goods from multiple sellers. Whether it’s automobiles or antiques, heavy equipment or heavy-duty pots and pans, if a business or individual is selling a chunk of their inventory, it will most likely happen at a consignment auction. With this method, multiple sellers can take advantage of Dakil’s auction expertise and attract buyers who already have a peaked interest in the specific goods at hand to one central location. Sellers at these auctions, called consignors, only pay a fee if their item sells, so risk is kept to a minimum.

Liquidation

Alternatively, when a company branch or entire firm is moving, closing, or simply outgrowing their current inventory, rather than auction off their assets by category with other sellers, the liquidation tactic often makes better sense. In a liquidation auction, the business sells all of its assets at once. These auctions are typically held on-site at the business location, but many can be accommodated in Dakil’s 15,000-square-foot warehouse and 8.5-acre yard. Liquidation sales are a turnkey solution that can help a business move to the next phase quickly and efficiently.

Estate

Estate auctions offer homes, land, investment properties, and household item inventories at a central location sold by expert brokers and licensed real estate professionals. Whether it’s residential or commercial property or even raw land, estate auctions allow you as the seller to pick the exact time you want to make the sale. You can sell everything as-is or just downsize, and we will bring the competition to you instead of having to advertise yourself. Estate sales can be held at the property or at our warehouse.

Of course, this is not an exhaustive list of every type of auction available. Dakil also handles auctions of mineral royalties and for charity, among others.  Almost any type of tangible property or asset can be sold via auction, and Oklahomans have trusted Dakil with their sales for decades.
